FAQ's

At Something Blue Bridal, we pride ourselves in customer care. Therefore, the list below contains commonly asked questions and answers.

Are appointments required to try on dresses?

We do recommend that you schedule an appointment especially when trying on wedding gowns. Because weddings are such an important event, you deserve the time and attention of a professional consultant and a relaxing experience. We do attempt to accommodate walk-ins when possible, however, due to limited dressing room space, we will need to schedule an appointment to try on gowns if there is not an opening. Our appointments are scheduled for 1 1/2 hour increments unless otherwise specified.

What can I expect when I come in for my appointment?

When you come in for your appointment, you will be greeted by a knowledgable consultant who will assist you throughout your appointment. You will be give a tour through the gowns and given information about each designer to help you begin your search. After selecting the gowns you would like to try on, your consultant will put you in a dressing room and provide you with a strapless bra (if you did not bring one) and slip for your appointment. She will then leave to allow you to change into them and return when you are ready to put on the first gown. Most wedding gowns are extremely heavy and difficult to try on without damaging the gown. In order to keep our gowns in excellent condition and to make the fittings easier for our brides, it is our store policy that any bride who is trying on bridal gowns must be assisted by a consultant. Family members and friends are not allowed to help you into the dresses but are invited to take a seat on our comfty sofa and enjoy watching you model each gown. If you are unable to decide on a dress by the end of your appointment, we will make a card for you and record the dresses you liked so you can try them on again during your follow-up appointment.

What should I bring to my appointment?

We have strapless bras and slips for you to use during your appointment but you may bring your own if you wish. If you are planning on wearing any special undergarments such as spanx we suggest that you bring them with you because it can make a difference on how the dress will fit your body. Also, any pictures of styles that you like would be helpful in allowing us to narrow down dresses that you may like.

How many people should I bring with me?

We ask that you bring no more than two or three people who are key to helping you select your wedding gown. We recommend this for two reasons: the first reason is because generally speaking, bringing too many people make it difficult in trying to decide on "the" gown. Everyone has different tastes and it can be very disappointing when you fall in love with a gown and it is shot down by someone who you care about. The second reason is because we have limited seating room in our store. Since we have multiple appointments going on at one time, it is not fair if one person's party takes up every seat and doesn't allow any sitting or moving room for other customers. We want this experience to be enjoyable for everyone.

Can I bring children when I came in to try on dresses?

A child's safety is our highest priority. Our bridal shop is not intended for children and is not a safe or secure environment. We encourage you to make other arrangements for them during your appointment. If you decide to bring children, we ask that they remain in a stroller or are held at all times. Any damage done by a child will be your responsibility.

Do you allow pets in your bridal shop?

We love animals but unfortunately they are not allowed in our bridal shop unless they are a certified service animal.

Can I take pictures of the dresses I try on?

Unlike most bridal shops, we do allow our customers to take pictures of dresses they try on. We understand that it is a big decision and sometimes you need to go home and review the dresses again before making a final decision. However, in order to protect our business, we do not allow our customers to take down style numbers. We will record the dresses you like so you can try them on again when you return to make your decision.

What is the average price of the bridal gowns in your bridal shop?

All dresses are priced with the designer's MSRP in mind. The average cost of wedding gowns in our bridal shop is between $600 - $1500 although one bridal line does range up to $2400. However, some of our sample gowns are marked as low as $299.00 so please ask about these special clearance gowns. We can work with nearly any budget.

How far in advance should I start looking for dresses?

We usually recommend shopping for your wedding gown 10 - 12 months prior to your wedding. Most wedding gowns take up to 8 months to arrive, therefore it is better to get it well in advance to leave time for alterations. Many gowns are eligible for rush delivery from the designer for additional charges but if they are unable to deliver your dress in time, we also sell our sample dresses at a discounted price. If your wedding is more than a year away, we still suggest putting in the order for your gown. Wedding gowns get discontinued all the time so it may not be available if you wait. We can request a later ship date so it will ship out closer to the wedding if you don't want it hanging around too long, but at least it is ordered and guarenteed to be here for your wedding. Bridesmaids, mother of the occasions, and flowergirl dresses usually take about 3 - 4 months to come in so we suggest starting to look 6 - 7 months prior to the wedding to allow time for alterations.

How do I place an order for an out of town bridesmaid?

All bridesmaids' dresses should be ordered at the same time and by the same bridal shop to ensure they are cut from the same dye lot. If you have an out of town bridesmaid, she can go to her local bridal shop or tailor to have them take her measurements. Then she can call us with her measurements and we can take a credit card over the phone for the deposit.

I think I found the same dress on the internet, what's different about it?

The majority of the dresses found on the internet are cheap knock offs which is why they are a fraction of the cost. Usually these websites use designers' images to imply that you are getting the same dress, but you are actually getting a much inferior product. The craftsmanship, quality, cut and beading pattern may look the same but actually they're a lot differnt. The old saying applies, if something seems to good to be true it probably is.

Do you offer alterations in your bridal shop?
A number of our designers offer custom-tailored services for our brides so in many cases we would be able to order a special length hem or change directly from the designer. However, even custom gowns may require alterations. We offer the services of two seamstresses at our shop for any necessary alterations you may need. Their services are independent from us so payment is made directly to them via check or cash. Although each dress is different, their price list is available for you so will have an idea of how much alterations may cost. With over 30 years of bridal alterations experience, we are confident that each bride will be satisfied with her gown on her big day.
